We do have the Company name and the Ticker in our system, but all we have is the SIC code that you could reference from the Internet. What you are looking for is not readily available in our system.

What is the SIC code associated to? i.e. ticker-> SIC ? for example I have a bunch of news articles related to stock tickers. Now I want to create a lookup table of sectors for these tickers. looks like my best bet for a couple of exchanges is: http://www.nasdaq.com/screening/company-list.aspxEdited by civilwar on May 6, 2014 at 12:35 PMEdited by civilwar on May 6, 2014 at 12:38 PM

Civilwar Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes are four digit numerical codes assigned by the U.S. government to business establishments to identify the primary business of the establishment. The classification was developed to facilitate the collection, presentation and analysis of data; and to promote uniformity and comparability in the presentation of statistical data collected by various agencies of the federal government, state agencies and private organizations. The classification covers all economic activities. you can search companys by this code on the internet https://siccode.com/en/

In addition; As a developer you could do a level one watch on each symbol that you want to consider, retrieve the SIC or NAICS code from the fundamental data that is returned and then do a symbol lookup to get a list of symbols for the corresponding sector. To get the name\description of the sector you could compare the number returned to the results of the sector lookup returns. Note: These would count against any symbol limits. http://www.iqfeed.net/dev/api/docs/SymbolLookupviaTCPIP.cfm describes the functions that would be needed to do the symbol lookup and sector code lookups. cool, although not practical unless I had a large symbol limit I will save info for reference, but I suppose I could do it over a larger span of time. is it 500 symbols per month or per day for default subscription?
Also news and the associated ticker do not list the exchange that the stock is listed under. I do not know enough about tickers, but I imagine that I might get two tickers that have the same name but are different companies on different exchanges?
anyways I will use nasdaqs Company List (NASDAQ, NYSE, & AMEX) and build a lookup and go from there. Edited by civilwar on May 6, 2014 at 01:28 PM Edited by civilwar on May 6, 2014 at 01:28 PM

500 at any one time.
Just spin through your symbol list and store the sector codes off in a database, that way your not constantly wasting bandwidth. Then set the process to refresh the sector codes once a week or once a month over a weekend or something similar to that.
