Finally getting around to posting this problem i've encountered for the last couple of
years, when i started using Thinkpads for all my 'puter work.

When I have stock charts up(say, IBM, as an easy sample), i can view it fine, etc.,
but cannot scroll back in time at all. No movement, no nothing. The only way i can
get at the older data is to zoom out, which doesn't work very well if i wanna go back
any length of time.

I use several different models of Thinkpad(A22, A31, Z61, T60), all running various
levels of WinXP, most with Service Pack installed. Some of these Thinkpads have
brand new/fresh installs of DTN(-not- migrations from earlier levels). Am current
on DTN levels on most of these. And, have encountered this problem on all of the
levels of DTN i've used in the past, on all of my Thinkpads.

I run 1600x1200 on the resolution, and i think sometime in the past i tried running
with a lower resolution, but don't remember much about that. Would like to stay at
UXGA, however.

Last time i had scrolling work was on an ancient boat anchor desktop box running
Win98(!).

So, do you DTN guys have access to any Thinkpads to investigate what my problem is??

I know 'puters, etc, so don't think the problem is on my end or my configs i'm using.

Hello AMA, can you email us with this problem to support@IQFeed.net or support@dtniq.com. That way we can troubleshoot this with you to see what may be causing the problem.

Thanks.

Got it figured out today, mucho thanks to Gavin in DTN tech support. Here's the scoop:

* at the bottom of the chart is the scroll bar. It's colored dark gray...
* the 'channel' in which the scroll bar moves is colored a lighter gray...
* immediately below the light gray 'channel' is a darker gray boundary(same color as scroll bar).
* immediately above the light gray 'channel' is a darker gray boundary(same color as scroll bar).
This above boundary is very, very thin & skinny.

Turns out if one goes with high res screen settings, large 'appearance' font settings, etc., this
skinny boundary ends up only being a couple/few pixels wide.

On my Tpads, I have to position the cursor pointer in this skinny zone for scrolling to work at all.
So, to make this all work, I position the cursor in this zone, barely move it several times,
while left clicking. At some point, I'll be 'in the zone' and scrolling will take place.

As long as I leave the curson motionless, in this zone, I'm good to go....however, -any-
movement at all on the cursor shoves it out of the zone and I'm dead in the water.

An alternative to all of this would be to run at a lower screen res, say 1024x768 or 1280x1024,
but since I'm staring at this screen all day long, I want as high of resolution screen as possible,
so I'll just live with this for now.

Would be nice if the DTN developers would arrange for the scrolling upper/skinny boundary
zone on charts to be a little wider/fatter in a future release. I can tell none of them did testing
at 1600x1200(WUGXA); otherwise, they'da had the same problem I encountered.

Interesting recurrance of the above scrolling problem:

* Got DTN going on a Z61p Thinkpad, wide-screen, WUXGA(1920x1200).

* Chart is wider, more data(good), but the scroll bar & framing for it are much more skinny
than on my UXGA, 1600x1200 old box.

* Therefore, it's harder/impossible(so far) for me to position the cursor point such that I can
get -any- kind of movement backwards on the chart. So, am currently stuck viewing older
data by zooming out, which doesn't work after a couple zooms(too crowded).

* Dunno how this can be resolved, find it hard to believe this isn't occurring to many laptop
users.

* I think my WinXP platform is pretty typical & vanilla, so don't think my box is the problem.

* Solution I outlined above works fine on a 1600x1200 screen, but not on a wide-screen format.

Any ideas ??
