"I've been using Neoticker RT with IQFeed for two months, and I'm very happy with both of the products (I've had IQFeed for two years with very few complaints). The service from both companies is exceptional." - Comment from Public Forum

"Boy, probably spent a thousand hours trying to get ******* API to work right. And now two hours to have something running with IQFeed. Hmmm, guess I was pretty stupid to fight rather than switch all this time. And have gotten more customer service from you guys already than total from them… in five years." - Comment from Jim

I've been reading about how IQFeed can run reliably under Wine-Stable, so I've been testing it out for the past 2 days. Below is a description of the issue I'm facing, any help would be highly appreciated!

ISSUE:
- After installing IQClient under Wine, I opened IQLinkLauncher.exe, entered my username and password on the pop-up box.
- I ran a simple Python script to download historical data but it said IQFeed is not connected.
- I then ran Diagnostic.exe. Out of 10 times I click on the 'Test' button, I only succeeded once or twice in getting data but in those rare occasions, after the initial batch of data is received, the connection fails again.
- Thinking of debugging the issue, I clicked on the 'Connectivity' tab, which says:
=======
login.interquote.com
Trace route to 66.112.148.213
Hop Min RTT Avg RTT Max RTT IP
Could not get a valid ICMP handle
=======
- To confirm that there is nothing wrong with my internet, I re-ran the above using the IQLinkLauncher installed on my host Win8.1 and everything was fine. The connection was very stable and never needed a re-login. I really have no idea what is wrong.

My setup:
(1) Debian Jessie 64-bit Virtualbox VM running on Win 8.1 host

Steps I took for Debian VM:
(1) Installed Wine (NOT: Wine-Development) based on the instructions here: https://wiki.debian.org/Wine. I started from Step 1, then step 2: Standard installation
(2) Ran 'winecfg'
(3) Installed iqfeed_client_6_0_0_5.exe (in the process, it installed vcredist_x86_2012u4) in Wine

I think 6.0.0.5 has some buffering/incomplete-record issues when running multiple symbols. Try the latest which is 6.0.1.1, I believe.

Try building your VM with Stretch.

Although describing a container build, the same wine configuration can be used in a regular VM (you may need to copy and paste the link rather than clicking on it):

http://blog.raymond.burkholder.net/index.php?/archives/950-Gui-using-Wine,-X2Go,-LXDE-in-a-simple-LXC-container.html

There might be an issue with the news service. If so, see the following for a fix:

http://blog.raymond.burkholder.net/index.php?/archives/747-DTNIQFeed-Gecko-Problem-in-Wine-from-WineHQ.html

To get IQConnect 'locked in', I run the SnapQuote application twice. The first time starts IQConnect, and the second time actually makes a connection after choosing a symbol. I then close the first SnapQuote application.

Phaser, is there a reason you're launching IQLinkLauncher? To connect to the IQFeed API, you only need to launch IQConnect.exe. The "IQLink" tools in the IQFeed client software are for manually starting DDE, and they aren't necessary in modern versions of Excel. They're only included for legacy reasons.

Sincerely,
