A problem i've encountered when installing DTN on a new-to-me computer is having to
reconfigure everything...option chains, charts, Time & Sales, etc, etc, etc.

How about some easy to use config files that we could move to other computers,
instead of all of the Registry stuff that's currently in place?

No reason DTN couldn't be smart enough to read some easy to maintain text files
rather that messing with registry garbage.

Hi AMA,

I have gone ahead and submitted a customer request for this feature, and agree that this would help all of us out! I will update when I hear back from our product management group.

Kind regards,

Sarah Sexton

Well, part way there on this - I managed to port over the registry configs for charts, T&S and Options chains, along with some .wat(watchlists) to a computer with a newer, unconfigured DTN on it, with no problems. Had to know where in the registry this stuff is, which wasn't a problem for me, but would hose up many users.

I renamed the existing registry areas on the new 'puter, then imported the various registry
chunks, and it all worked fine.

So, I'm certainly more portable now, but ultimately, some sort of text based, readable, non-registry
config files would be an item for future releases.

When it comes to client software, 95% of our development resource has moved to our ProphetX software. In this software, there are workbook files (single files) that contain the settings for your charts, quote sheets, symbol lists, templates, etc. In addition, each of these settings are saved so your screen will come up each day in the exact same configuration as previously.

That being said, each update to the DTN.IQ software has at least allowed us to clean up the registry settings a bit which may make it easier to create an import/export function for user settings. we will see if we can get something in a future build.

In the mean time, I recommend taking a look at ProphetX if you haven't already. Our Sales group can setup a free trial for you, and you can run them side by side on your PC.
