I'm tracking exchange volumes, using DTN's calculated values. VIKT.Z (OTC total volume) does a strange thing, it builds up to a very high value, around 5,000,000, then in the afternoon it drops suddenly to a reasonable figure, around 500,000.
Does anyone know what is going on? The other exchanges behave normally.

What software are you using to display this value? The value seems to continue to increase on the historical tick data (I don't see any drops), however, this may be an issue with the number being so large for a "last" price that it is overflowing. I see it displayed in scientific notation because the number is so large.

I see it both in Quote Tracker and on a Quatro Pro spreadsheet. The spreadsheet is getting data from IQ Link DDE and the numbers are the same as in QT. Today it hasn't dropped yet bu looking at QT's last 10 days, it has dropped on 7 of them. I realize that the OTC stocks being mostly low priced trade in large volumes, but 7 billion is too much.
Also you are showing the average price (AIKT.Z) at $11.27, If you divide the total Dollar Volume (AIKT.Z) by the total volume you get about one cent, so there is a discrepancy there.
About 88% of the total is shown as Unchanged, with 9% Up and 3% Down

Sorry, I made a mistake on the last line above, copied the wrong figures. It should be: 63% Up, 3% Down, 34% unchanged. Considering today's market, the 63% up looks suspicious also.

The @DIKT and @VIKT are correct. The reason @DIKT is so low is because the stocks that make up the majority of the OTC volume, trade for less than a penny for example CMKX traded 3,762,825,901 shares at .0004 and USCI traded 2,236,775,861 at .0002. To caculate the @AIKT we add up the OTC other last prices and divide that total by the total number of OTC stocks.
I believe this is answering your question, if not, let me know.

Thanks, I didn't realize that the AIKT was an average of all lasts, I thought it would be the dollar volume divided by the total volume. I still am wondering why last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday there was a large drop in the VIKT in the early afternoon. Today it seems to be normal. Do you have any idea what the averages are for the various volumes? Thanks again.

Any IQ version older than 23 does not support the (daily, weekly or monthly) history for @VIKT or any market stats. Version 23 and newer does.

I am using Quote Tracker, it keeps 2 days of backfill in detail and 8 days by 1/4 minute. Yesterday VIKT had this interesting result: At 16:02:57 5,563,441 At 16:03:02 1,282,474 a drop of 4,280,967 At 16:09:42 5,571,061 a rise of 4,285,968
Drops during the day occured on 7/15 at 12:31, 7/16 at 14:41, 7/19 at 14:45:30, 7/20 at 13:32:30, etc These drops in volume were in the range of 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 and did not return to the previous value like yesterday, 7/27 did. I think the numbers are thousands of shares so we are talking "adjustments" of 3 to 5 billion shares. The numbers are sent in the Last, Bid and Ask spaces and it doesn't appear to be a roll-over due to the large size.
Are these actually changes made on the NASDAQ network or is something else happening?

VIKT took another big drop today (7/29), at 15:41:02 went from 5,484,192 down to 1,195,425.
I'm getting the same results via DDE on my spreadsheet so the number is definitely being reduced.

This is caused because the majority of the 5,484,192,000 OTC volume (VIKT is in 1000s) is from one stock CMKX. Our stock database stores the actual volume of individual stocks as a 32bit integer with a maximum volume of 4,294.967.296. At 15:41:02 the volume for CMKX rolled over in our stock database which caused the sudden decline in VIKT. To fix this overflow, the stock volumes need to be stored in a larger field and sent out in a larger field. This is a known issue and we are looking into getting it fixed. Thanks.

Thanks for the information. Perhaps the best fix would be to convince CMKX to do a reverse stock split, say 10,000 to 1! The price seems to stay around 0.0004 but there are probably more digits after that.
I keep track of market activity by calculating the number of shares per second, but the huge blocks of that stock make the figures usless for the OTC market. Once again, thanks for your response.

Today CMKX has only hit 1/2 billion shares at 2 pm. Did you guys do anything or has the volume just dropped?
