"Just a quick one to say I'm very impressed so far :) The documentation for developers is excellent and I've quickly managed to get an app written to do historical downloads. The system is very robust and pretty quick considering the extent of data that's available. The support guys have been very helpful too, in combination with the forums it's been plain sailing so far!" - Comment from Adam

I have problem with internet traffic. At the beginning of trading session as well as at the end of the trading session the traffic could hit several MBit/sec.

When I create a list of stocks (about 1,500) I use the following command:
SendRequestToIQFeed("t,MSFT\r\n");

I need only trades (open, High, Low Close, Volume), I do not need bid and ask info. I have filling that despite my request for trades only I still receive all information that I do not need. I have this filling because when I changed request to
SendRequestToIQFeed("w,MSFT\r\n");
I had the same internet traffic

Whether I use "t" or "w" parameter in the SendRequestToIQFeed function, the traffic remains unchanged (huge)

What should I do to reduce the traffic - I need trades only. Is it something I can do on my end, or you can do it by making some changes on my account on your end?

@JBEN - try to use the Dynamic FieldSet (http://www.iqfeed.net/dev/api/docs/DynamicFieldsets.cfm) functionality

Note: I am not a DTN employee; my post reflects my personal opinion and not necessarily DTN's

Good morning,

The problem is that the filtering of the data is done on your machine via IQConnect. So you are correct, that the t vs the w watch will not affect your incoming numbers. I do not have a way to limit this at the server level, but it would certainly have value to many so I will push it up to management on your behalf.

Tim

I monitor 2k symbols. At the market open and at the market close the traffic is hitting 5-7 MBit/sec.

As of now the average volume on the market is at the historical low. As an example AAPL volume is at the average level of 1980th.

Sonner or later the market will turn down and we will have an increase in trading volume. IF we have something like 2008, we should expect 5-10 times increase in volume at least. That mean I will have increase in inbound traffic to 30-50 Mbit/sec. This is a huge traffic not just for me but for you as well. Even now, on some days, at the market open and at the market close, I see your feed freezes for 10-30 sec. As I understand it is because of the traffic. How is it going to work when we have increase in trading volume on the market?
